Dog Sled Derby

Stoco Lake: Feb 3&4 2024

SSASO is a not-for-profit sled dog association dedicated to the education and preservation of sled dogs and physical literacy through harness activities for both humans and canines. SASSO  focusses on the history and development of the working sled dog and provide information and support for people interested in getting started in the sport.

SASSO's mission is to educate the general public about the wide range of benefits of becoming active with your dogs in harness sports, including bonding and healthy living through increased physical fitness and proper nutrition. SASSO also promotes good sled dog care and welfare.

SASSO's main goals are safety for the dogs, mushers and spectators. SASSO educates in a way that is fun and memorable to the public with healthy and happy dogs. A race is a very interactive event.  The public is encouraged to meet dog teams and talk to mushers and handlers.

OFFICIALS

 Meet your Race Marshall:

Jim Cunningham

I enjoy what I do in sled dog sports. I get to meet people from all over the world, I get to see some incredible canine athletes, but most of all I get to introduce people to sled dog racing and explain to them the incredible bond between the musher and his/her team.

Meet your Race Timers:

Marcel Garneau and Lesley Morrison

What is a Race Timer?
Dog sled races are run with a staggered start. That is, the teams go out at intervals to avoid chaos at the start line. So the run is time and the team with the fastest time wins! Race timers perform an essential job in any race. They need to be precise, accurate and reliable.
